CHAMPS Glass Games Rules & Requirements

We are proud to welcome all of our artists to the Atlantic City Games.

 

Please read our normal prep rules, as they have changed. 

Normal Prep Rules:

* All rods or tubing prepped can be in any size(s) of cylinder.

* No Wig Wags are allowed.

* No Millefiori and Murrine are allowed.

* NO pre-encased Single Opal Marbles are permitted (raw opals ok).

* ”Untwisted” tube or vac stack is allowed.

* Pre-made and Pre-stacked vacstack, ready to be pulled are allowed

* No pre-shaped tubes or rods.

* All prepped tubing and color rod must be in stock-style cylinders

* Prepped tubing on handles is allowed

* Prepped rod or solid cylinders in any consentiating sizes are allowed.

* Colored tubing, powder-coated, and frit-tumbled tube in any single color is allowed

* Blow-in and sleeved glass is allowed, as long as not shaped or patterned – just color. (No pre-made space tubing, bubble-trapped or frit-sleeved over color are allowed.)

* No twisted cane 

* Color cane striped bars/Dicro cane bars, untwisted are allowed (Stock flat or cylinder untwisted cane). It must be twisted during the competition.

* Frit or colored tube is allowed and can be on handles, but it is not allowed to be shaped. (No pre-shaped balls are allowed, cylinder only.)

* No pre-made horns. Handled cylinders colored to be made into horns however are permitted. All cylinder sizes are allowed.

* No pre-prepped tubes or rods in a gradient or taper, unless there is a slight taper or gradient in size throughout the hand-pulled crucible, dipped, hand striped, or coil potted rod. (No prepped colors blending or faded into other colors.)

Other than the above requirements, pretty much anything you can find in a glass store, un-manipulated, is allowed. 

 

Torch Requirements

This is a plug and play system, which most glassblowers are accustomed to. We have one oxygen and one propane port.  Torches need to have hoses attached. T-Grade hoses and lines with B-Connector Fittings, quick connects preferred with western brass ends. Regulators provided by CHAMPS. (ALL hand torches, bunsons, etc. must be "y-ed" or connected within your own system, not ours - ready to plug and play)

 

The Event Requirements

* Artists must select one 2 hour event and one 3 hour event *

“Cap It”

Two hour competition to create a carb cap for a banger size and style of your choice. 

 

Rules

This is a 2-hour competition on your own torch (see torch requirements) wherein artists will create a carb cap for a banger size and style of their choice. Caps will be tested for fit, size, and function. This test, along with style and aesthetics, is what judging will be based upon.  You will have a shared 8’ bench of workspace, so please be courteous of that space and do not bring the kitchen sink in the way of tools and prep. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply, any rod or tubing from a glass store, all raw (no pre-made anything), prep tubing or color tubing is allowed on handles to be warmed (See full prep rules).

“High & Dry"

We want to see your best dry pipe. It can be any style dry pipe you choose: sidecar, hammer, sherlock, spoon, etc. 

Rules:

This is a 2 hour competition on your own torch (see torch requirements) of a functional dry pipe. You will have a shared 8’ bench of workspace, so please be courteous of that space and do not bring the kitchen sink in the way of tools and prep. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply, any rod or tubing from a glass store, all raw (no pre-made anything), prep tubing or color tubing is allowed on handles to be warmed (See full prep rules).

 

“Predator vs Prey”

Must be a functional glass piece following the theme of predator vs prey.  You can create a predator style, a prey style, or combination of predator and prey. 

 

Rules:

This is a 3-hour competition on your own torch (see torch requirements) of a functional glass piece following the theme of predator vs prey. You can create a predator style, a prey style, or combination of predator and prey. You will have an 8’ bench of workspace to yourself. You are allowed to bring 4 pre-made limbs, NO HEADS, TAILS, or WINGS! All 4 limbs cannot be over 6” each in length, but are allowed on handles. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply, any rod or tubing from a glass store, all raw (no pre-made anything), prep tubing or color tubing is allowed on handles to be warmed (See full prep rules).

 

"Old School vs New School”

This competition you must choose a side, Old School being any style pre 2005 and New School being any style from 2005 to 2019

 

Rules:

This is a 3–hour competition on your own torch (see torch requirements) wherein artists will choose either a pre-2005 style or a 2005-2019 style that is a functional glass piece. You will have an 8’ bench of workspace to yourself.  Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply, any rod or tubing from a glass store, all raw (no pre-made anything), prep tubing or color tubing is allowed on handles to be warmed (See full prep rules).

“Customs"

The theme says it all. You will be given a spending budget for you to take 15 minutes prior to your start to “purchase” pieces from a designated booth with priced pieces.  You will have to manipulate and work this glass to create something, so keep that in mind as you select.

 

Rules:

This is a 3-hour competition. You will have an 8’ bench of work pace. Normal torch requirements apply.

*Specific prep rules apply* You are only allowed color rod, clear rod, and blow pipes, no tubing.
