3 Hours 15 Minutes Torch TIme

Top 3 Finished Pieces Qualify

1st: Place: $1000 2nd Place: $500 3rd Place: $250

Top 3 winning pieces, the person who made prep wins $100 also

It’s like Christmas in July!  This event is a cross between last year’s “Mystery Collaboration” and “Assemble It” competitions.  Artist’s will in random teams, each artist premakes prep and is randomly matched up with somebody else’s prep to create a finished piece at the show.

Before the show, each competing artist will pre-make a 4x4x4 box of glass pieces and parts which must include:

1 - 3 inch x 20-25mm worked art section of tube

2 – Flat Disk Tube section – at least the size of a quarter but must fit in box

3 – Box must be filled up with various other horns/attachments/marbles/horns/opals/flowers etc.  Make it fun, not dumb, you will also want a good box so make a good one for someone else!

*The box must be 4inx4x4 with a lid that can close*

Also, please remember to bring raw materials following normal prep rules to create a finished piece at the show live.

Mini Rig

20 Contestants

3 Hours 15 Minutes Torch TIme

Top 3 Qualify

1st: Place: $1000 2nd Place: $500 3rd Place: $250

This event is what it sounds like, 3 hours to make a mini rig.  Not about being the smallest or the tallest but the best overall 3 book their ticket to the Master’s Finals.  Each artist will be allowed to bring a pre made 1inch diameter x 3 inches long section of “arted” and decorated but not sculpted section of tube.  Pieces will be judged with water inside, function counts.  Normal Prep Rules Apply

Hide a Pipe

20 Contestants

3 Hours 15 Minutes Torch TIme

Top 3 Qualify

1st: Place: $1000 2nd Place: 500 3rd Place: $250

This competition is all about disguising a pipe as a “normal” work of art.  Think of when someone is looking at or handling a piece, say a skull or an animal, and they turn it over and exclaim, “Oh! It’s a hide a pipe!”  Normal Prep Ruled Apply

Stylistic Manipulation

20 Contestants

3 Hours 15 Minutes Torch Time

Top 3 Qualify

1st: Place: $1000 2nd Place: $500 3rd Place: $250

Make as many different small pieces as you can out of one pound of the same tubing.     How many different styles of pipes can you make in just over 3 hours?, one-hitters, spoons, chillums, J-Holders, slides, noodles, steam rollers, side-cars, hammers, sherlocks, corn-cobs, space tube, bubble-trap, bongs etc.  If it’s a recognizable pipe, it counts.  If there is a tie we will judge on artistry so make them look nice!

All competitors must bring 1 pound of tubing; we will be weighing it at the show.  The tubing may be store bought or prepped, opal, reticello, wrapped and raked, frit, color, anything except clear, everything weighing 1 lb.  Pound of prep should be wrapped in a bundle with no clear handles.

Also, please bring 2 clear, either 12 mm or 9mm to be used as blow tubes.

Tool Less

20 Contestants

3 Hours 15 Minutes Torch Time

Top 3 Qualify

1st: Place: $1000 2nd Place: 500 3rd Place: $250

That’s right, no tools.  It’s just you, your torch and hot glass.  Bring all the glass you want, you are still not getting a single tool (no “wax” either).  This is a pipe show, all finished pieces must have a function.  Glass fittings ok and normal prep rules apply.

Teamwork Makes The Dream Work

20 contestants

10 Teams of 2

7 hours Torch Time

1st: Place: $1000 each 2nd Place: $500 each 3rd Place: $250 each

You pick your own team and make a piece that will blow our minds in this 7 hour, shared bench competition.  You and a partner will be blowing glass simultaneously for one day while sharing what is typically 1 workstation.  Glass blowers are used to cramped conditions, lets see how you do.  Normal Prep Rules Apply.
