CHAMPS Glass Games Rules & Requirements

We are proud to welcome all of our artists to the Las Vegas Summer Qualifier Games.

 

Please read our normal prep rules, as they have changed. 

Normal Prep Rules:

* All rods or tubing prepped can be in any size(s) of cylinder.

* No Wig Wags are allowed.

* Millefiori and Murrine are permitted (sticks and polished slices allowed).

* Pre-encased Single Opal Marbles are permitted (raw opals ok).

* ”Untwisted” tube or vac stack is allowed.

* Pre-made and Pre-stacked vacstack, ready to be pulled are allowed

* No pre-shaped tubes or rods (Only in RAW Cylinder form).

* All prepped tubing and color rod must be in stock-style cylinders

* Prepped tubing on handles is allowed

* Prepped rod or solid cylinders in any consentiating sizes are allowed.

* Colored tubing, powder-coated, and frit-tumbled tube in any single color is allowed

* Blow-in and sleeved glass is allowed, as long as not shaped or patterned – just color. (No pre-made space tubing, bubble-trapped or frit-sleeved over color are allowed.)

* No twisted cane 

* Color cane striped bars/Dicro cane bars, untwisted are allowed (Stock flat or cylinder untwisted cane). It must be twisted during the competition.

* Frit or colored tube is allowed and can be on handles, but it is not allowed to be shaped. (No pre-shaped balls are allowed, cylinder only.)

* No pre-made horns. Handled cylinders colored to be made into horns however are permitted. All cylinder sizes are allowed.

* No pre-prepped tubes or rods in a gradient or taper, unless there is a slight taper or gradient in size throughout the hand-pulled crucible, dipped, hand striped, or coil potted rod. (No prepped colors blending or faded into other colors.)

Other than the above requirements, pretty much anything you can find in a glass store, un-manipulated, is allowed. 

 

Torch Requirements

This is a plug and play system, which most glassblowers are accustomed to. We have one oxygen and one propane port.  Torches need to have hoses attached. T-Grade hoses and lines with B-Connector Fittings, quick connects preferred with western brass ends. Regulators provided by CHAMPS. (ALL hand torches, bunsons, etc. must be "y-ed" or connected within your own system, not ours - ready to plug and play)

 

The Event Requirements

“Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil”

(20 competitors)

 

We want artists to create pieces in the theme of the iconic monkeys that we all know, in any way you like.

 

Rules

This is a 3-hour, 45 min. competition wherein artists can bring a 4x4x4 box of pre-made elements to help create a nicer, more developed pipe or pipes (for instance, making three sets of legs and arms pre-posed as well as other parts other parts.)  You will have an 8’ bench of workspace. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply, plus box.

“Rastafari: Roots, Rock, Reggae"

(20 competitors)

 

We are looking for a Rasta-themed piece: “Rally around the Red, Gold, Black, and Green.” I & I are looking for some Rootz-y art, inspired by that Rasta vibe.

Rules:

This is a 3-hour, 45 min competition which is Rasta-themed. You will have an 8’ bench of work space. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply.

 

“Multi-Function”

(20 competitors)

 

We want a double, triple, etc. multi-function piece in this event, where the piece can be smoked, drunk, worn, played, etc. as examples. Use your creativity to come up with that next big idea for a multiple-use(s) a pipe.

 

Rules:

This is a 3-hour, 45 min. competition. You will have an 8’ bench of workspace. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply.

 

“Action Figure”

(20 competitors)

 

We’ve all have had these in our hands as children. We know our favorites. Make an action figure from any point in your life. Bring that inner child out!

 

Rules:

This is a 3–hour, 45 min competition. We are letting you get a little ahead. You can bring a pre-made head on or off a handle. You have an 8’ bench of workspace. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply plus head.

“Pipe in a Pipe: Russian Dolls”

(20 competitors)

 

The theme says it all. Pipes can be within each other. Make as many as you want, or just one in another. This is your interpretation.

 

Rules:

This is a 3-hour, 45 min. competition. You will have an 8’ bench of work pace. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply.

 

“Mystery Collab”

(40 competitors)

 

Back by popular demand! Who, what, when??? We will match you up with someone before the show and pre-schedule your time, so it doesn’t conflict with other events. Artists, sign up soon! Don’t miss out, as this event will definitely fill up fast.

 

Rules:

This is a 3-hour, 45 min competition. This is an assigned event. Entrants will be given slotted times, so other events can be scheduled accordingly. We will link people together at random. You will be notified of the other artist a week prior to the event, so you can get a game plan going to mix and match styles. You will share an 8’ bench of workspace. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply.

 

“Inner Peace”

(20 competitors)

 

Look within and let out that “OM” Vibe!

We are looking for a pipe that conveys that sense of Zen and projects a feeling of peace and serenity.

 

Rules:

This is a 3-hour, 45 min competition. We are allowing you to bring ONE pre-made element (not parts and pieces) that fits in a 4x4 box (on a handle, through the opening of the box is OK). It can be worked, faceted, spun, etc. You will have an 8’ bench of workspace. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply.

 

“Necklace”

(20 competitors)

 

Wrap your head around this, as it’s a necklace!

We’re looking for a piece that has beads and a centerpiece, pendant or pipe pendant etc.

 

Rules:

This is a 3-hour, 45 min. competition. You will have an 8’ bench of workspace. Normal prep rules and torch requirements apply.
